To support that challenge, the Alva team is currently seeking an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Supervisor in Alva, FL.
  • You will help shape the future of agriculture by: 
  • Responsible for the implementation and management of the Integrated Pest Management Systems
  • Ensuring that all processes and procedures meet and or exceed all regulatory requirements and that they are conducted in a safe and effective manner
  • Executing all outlined IPM and Growing procedures to ensure the highest quality cuttings that meet our customers’ requirements for the products and or crops produced at the Alva site 

Accountabilities  

  • Ensure that all Scouting, Spraying, Fumigation and Growing processes and procedures are executed in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and diagnosis crop for insect and disease issues.  Respond in compliance with IPM and WPS practices.
  • Manage all personnel, all processes and all programs associated with Scouting, Spraying and Data clerk.
  • Maintain records of pesticide (including fumigation) applications.
  • Ensure that chemical inventory is accurate, and materials are stored and maintained in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain all necessary documentation to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and maintain all KPI’s.
  • Ensure growing and IPM equipment is maintained in a manner that supports safe, efficient, and effective applications.
  • Maintain procedures manuals and documentation for all processes.
  • In cooperation with HSES, ensure that all personnel have the appropriate training, PPE, and certifications for their roles.
  • Maintain proper Schedules for Scouts, Spray guys and Data clerk personnel schedules.
  • Responsible to conduct different field trials to improve on current practices.
  • Visually inspect the crops proactively.
  • Monitor and evaluation the pest and diseases for all stages of crop from unrooted cuttings to mature stock plants.
  • Active participation in all HSES activities and trainings.
  • Play a very active role in the development and implementation of improvements to the IPM processes and procedures. Ensuring continual improvements to safety, processes, and procedures. 
  • Participate and support the activities for continual improvement team activities.
  • Perform other duties as they arise from necessity or changes in business. 
  • Participate in all process improvement activities and support the objectives to ensure yearly goals are achieved.
     

Qualifications

Requirements 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • AA degree preferred
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States now and in the future without Sponsorship
  • Requires 2-3 years related years of horticulture experience
  • Experience with crop growing and IPM systems and the implementation required
  • Experience in the management and implementation of standardized horticulture processes
  • Experience with handling and application of pesticides, bio-pesticides, and predatory control methods
  • Experience with growing or planning in agriculture field 
  • Obtain Florida pesticide license within 6 months of hire
  • Obtain Fumigant applicators certification within 6 months of hire
  • Understand Worker Protection Standards
  • Competent with Microsoft Suite

Critical Success Factors & Key Challenges:

  • Familiarity with Pesticides and Fumigants.  
  • Working knowledge of Growing ornamental crops and Integrated Pest Management best practices. Ensuring that all procedures and process meet or exceed all internal and external regulations.
  • Knowledge of common Horticultural pests and their management.
  • Understand basic crop requirements such as moisture, light, soil conditions and fertility.
  • Provides support for individuals and teams to work at their creative edge. 
  • Plans, organizes, and monitors performance to meet deadline and operational objectives.
  • Quality driven and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and define priorities. 

Additional Information:

  • 70% of role spent working outdoors directly with crop 
  • 30% of role spent in office
  • Ability to walk in sandy soil and other various weather conditions in Florida
  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs.
