Role Purpose

To maximize sales and profitability by developing a trusted one to one virtual relationship with targeted high value grower customers.

Meet agreed-to sales and market share targets/objectives, which are part of the overall sales and marketing plan for the district and National Inside Sales Team.

This is a role that can be based in Saskatchewan, or Calgary, AB

Accountabilities

Meet or ideally exceed District sales targets and objectives by:

  • Focusing on High Value Grower customers who are aligned with an assigned sales district
  • Developing a trusted relationship with customers through V2V and digital communications – through existing and adoption of new technologies
  • Implementing annual business plans and programs with targeted list of growers
  • Collaborates with Inside Sales Team to develop best in class Inside Sales Processes
  • Collaborates with District Sales Team to develop understanding of local agronomics, market factors and team requirements
  • Improves the 360 degree view of the customer through documenting grower interactions, account plans, account updates and grower preferences in Salesforce
  • Provides input on V2V Customer needs with Customer Campaign teams
  • Collaborates with Marketing team to execute targeted outbound calling campaigns

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

  • Critical knowledge
  • Detailed knowledge of the local Canadian Seed and Crop Protection businesses and overall Syngenta offerings.
  • Detailed knowledge of the local Canadian Company distributors and partners (crop protection and seeds).
  • Comprehension of the Canadian and North American agricultural, seeds, seed treating and crop protection markets and the regulations and policies that affect these markets.
  • Agronomic knowledge of the crops grown in the geographic area
  • Awareness of new and existing technologies
  • First-hand knowledge of farming operations
  • Understanding of Strategic Selling
  • Understand the basic fundamentals of business challenges

Critical experience

  • Minimum B.Sc.or B.Comm, plus a minimum of 5 years sales experience in agri-business industry, or related role.
  • Extensive experience in the Canadian Crop Protection and/or Seeds market.
  • Understanding of financial analysis and business practices.
  • Good strategic influencing and negotiation skills
  • CCSC completed or in progress
  • CCA an asset

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

  • Strong understanding of marketing principles and best practices
  • Clear and effective decision-making, with an emphasis on a data-driven approach
  • Understanding of best practice marketing plan development

Critical success factors & key challenges

  • Interpersonal Skills – skills required to effectively communicate with members of the various channel partners as well as with senior management within the Syngenta organization; skills required to deal with and resolve issues between Syngenta and channel partners.
  • Planning Skills- skills required to develop business plans, which support the current sales budget;
  • Able to seek information about the real underlying needs and business strategies of the grower.
  • Strong verbal communication, written communication and presentation skills enabling transfer of quality information to stakeholders and contacts and across the organization.
  • Strong self development skills in managerial competencies, building and maintaining product knowledge, use recommendations and knowledge of current and emerging technologies
  • Travel required – 10-15%
