Role Purpose

  • Develop, strategize and enable execution of seed production and supply in India and Bangladesh. Build high performing team and grower base.
  • Ensure reliability, seed yields, quality and cost per the business priorities per Syngenta HSE and Sustainability guidelines.
  • Build winning team. Lead and guide team to achieve the business targets.
  • Actively collaborate and contribute to success of country FCLTs and cross functional teams. Focus on delivering functional excellence in all aspects of field seed production and processing operations and management, both in house and 3P facilities for all crops
  • To manage with growing area/grower and crops focus, advice technical to the grower for  achieving yield, quality, cost, and reliable/timing as budget company in seed production field.
  • Align Production and Processing to growth plans in India and Bangladesh by delivering on our asset strategy, building people talent within the organization and strongly supporting the teams involved in Organization Processes like SPP, S&OP, Budgeting etc, that support business goals and supplies with forecasts

Accountabilities

Operational Responsibility

  • Enable execution of area and grower base expansion to improve Field Capacity for seed production
  • Understanding the area cropping dynamics for (Field crop) and ensure seed multiplication capabilities are in place to meet those needs, with  clear focus on quality and customer requirement
  • Determine production planning parameters such as base yield levels at grower level, production risks and diversification to achieve supply plan.
  • As the technical expert, provide crop/variety specific knowledge to team, grower and vendor as required ( e.g advice on field capabilities needed).
  • Support the vendor contracting process at the grower level, through agreeing purchase prices and other contracting terms within the area framework.
  • Own, define, and communicate to team, growers and 3Ps on performance against agreed KPÍ's.
  • Identify new and develop new/existing vendor and ensure all are tracked against the appropriate performance measures to drive continuous improvement.
  • Active participant in cross functional teams for operational goals and long term priorities.

Managerial Responsibility

  • Behaves as an effective leader in the field production management team and effective way forthe benefit of company growth.
  • Ensures efficient and effective communication flow and networking among function in supply management (SPR, Quality, Supply Operation)
  • Ensures best use of technology to make company processes effective and efficient.
  • Ensure safe field production and site operations, compliance with local regulations and the Syngenta Standards.
  • Driving continuous improvements in HSE, seed production, seed quality, process efficiency, cost optimization.
  • Deliveries of planned capital investments to align with business direction and Strategy within Production and Processing.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the development of people and the organizational set up is fully aligned with the needs of fast and effective strategy implementation by a) Identifying ideal organization structure, role profiles, capability and skills necessary in the organization to implement strategy and b) Identifying gaps and fill them through training, coaching, hiring and changing organizational set up accordingly
  • Fosters and facilitates communication, sharing and teamwork in field team
  •  Ensures proper succession plans are in place

Strategic Impact

  • Defines an agenda to implement the strategy for production and supply chain. Ensures it is cascaded clearly and in detail to the field and plant team, generating commitment and energy and maximizing speed and impact in implementation.

Representation of Syngenta

  • Builds trust and transparency inside the company and in the local community showing ethical considerations and Syngenta values are reflected in company activities.
  • Effectively promotes Syngenta Brand inside the company at customers and stakeholder

 


Qualifications

Critical Success Factors

  • Achieve agreed quality levels of seeds (Physical & genetic purity, germination and vigor)
  • Achieve a high level of supply, balancing production risks and meeting service lavels
  • Good relationship with contact at seed production
  • Techno-commercial leadership

Critical Knowledge

  • Master or bachelor degree (Agriculture Engineering or Agronomic disipline preferred)
  • Functional knowledge of seed production, production countries and vendor
  • Language (site or country) plus English

Critical Experience

  • 10 years experience in seed production and or production process in agriculture
  • Strong experience in working in cross functional tearms and a matrix organization
  • Proven people leader with strong capability to build winning teams
  • Requires frequent travelling and willingness to relocate

  • High level of broad technical skill in Seed processing
