To support this challenge, Syngenta’s Crop Protection Communications team is currently seeking a Head of North America Crop Protection Communications in Washington, DC.

This role will support the delivery of the Crop Protection business strategic agendas in North America and Global Crop Protection. Communications efforts will focus on three areas: Delivering the Commercial Strategy, Protecting Freedom to Operate (FTO), and Enhancing Business Reputation.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and manage the region’s Crop Protection business internal and external communications strategy, planning and implementation for employees and external audiences.
  • Lead a team of senior communications managers, outside agencies and consultants that support Syngenta Crop Protection throughout North America. Primary communications responsibility is for the U.S., with guidance for Canada.
  • Actively participate as a member of the North America Crop Protection Leadership Team, North America Business Sustainability Leadership Team and Global Crop Protection Communications Leadership Team.
  • Provide experienced guidance in managing change and major issues/crisis communications. Expertise required in developing strategy and implementing innovative and effective communications aimed at employees, news media, channel partners, growers, talent recruits, suppliers, legislators, regulators, communities and other stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple regional and global organizational connecting points within Syngenta and with outside organizations.
  • Liaise and collaborate with Syngenta Group and its other Business Unit communications teams.
  • Provide advice and counsel on communications matters to business and other function leaders.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 15 years of communication experience preferably with a Multinational/Global company
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related discipline
  • Advanced knowledge of communications best practices including digital and social media, and issues, crisis and change management communications, as well as top-tier media relations
  • Track record of delivering effective communications strategies, plans and campaigns in a regulated industry to enable and support business success and protect reputation
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Must be based in the Washington, D.C. area
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship from Syngenta

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and manage relationships across a global company in a matrixed setting
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment and with a wide variety of critical stakeholders
  • Expertise in employing digital tools and social media
  • Experience in leading communications to support business and product issues, litigation, change projects and transformation
  • Experience with financial media outreach and investor communications preferred
