To support that challenge, we are currently seeking a highly motivated Group Nature & Climate Analyst (m/f/d) in our Headquarter in Basel, Switzerland.

Role Purpose: 


In this role, the individual will support the Head of Nature & Climate in 2 key areas:

  • Shape Syngenta Group’s agenda on Nature & Climate
  • Critically review the latest scientific thinking and emerging trends regarding climate and nature in the context of the agriculture industry and consolidate findings into actionable guidance to inform the companies response

Accountabilities:

  • Monitor emerging issues and trends related to nature and climate that impact the environmental sector and agriculture industry
  • Critically review the scientific literature and data obtained from surveys, research and digital solutions to identify insights that are relevant for Syngenta
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders and experts, effectively translate findings and best available science-based solutions into business relevant guidelines, processes, and/or best practice which can be used to form the basis for the company’s response
  • Work with the Head of Nature & Climate to identify the response required from the company and to help shape the direction of the organization in relation to relevant issues or trends. 
  • Act as a technical and research expert to support the Sustainability Leadership team as they represent and participate at expert forums relating to Nature & Climate, thus helping position the Company as a thought-leader in the industry
  • Provide timely data and reports on progress on Nature & Climate initiatives or commitments. 
  • Manage 3rd parties for data acquisition and innovative insight delivery and work with a network of agronomic and business subject matter experts to guide and contextualize sustainability data & insights
  • Support the communication of findings and best practices in high-level international forums and peer reviewed publications and support the cultivation of an external presence in coordination with Syngenta Group Communications team and Syngenta thought leaders in this space
  • Build rapport and network with industry partners and stakeholders (both internal and external) to understand and contribute to initiatives, studies, and projects that promote and facilitate science-based solutions in the juncture of soil, biodiversity, nature, and agriculture

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • PhD or MSc related to sustainability in Agriculture plus min. 3 years of working experience and technical expertise in key areas of Nature & Climate (e.g., Climate accounting, modelling, climate science). Especially those that relate to the food, agriculture, and land use sector.
  • Experience in the Agriculture industry, environmental bodies and conservation authorities with their relevant topics including but not limited to soil health, biodiversity, climate change, climate regulation and climate change, carbon sequestration and deforestation. 
  • Ability to handle and make sense of large amounts of scientific data, translating that into tangible outcomes and summary. 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Capable of assessing complex policy issues and developing solutions.
  • Experience translating science across traditional disciplinary boundaries and into pragmatic conservation and/or natural resource management decisions
  • Good project / programme management skills and ability to balance various deliverables and priorities at the same time. 
  • Team player yet independent in managing tasks / operations. 
  • Good interpersonal & communication skills with ability to connect across a matrix-based organisation
