Syngenta Seeds is seeking an experienced professional to lead the digital transformation of our greenhouse operations. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead the integration of cutting-edge technologies to optimize space planning, resource allocation, and phenotypic data collection for our research testing new genetically engineered (GE) and genetically modified (GM) traits.

As the Greenhouse Digital Science Lead, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative digital solutions that streamline greenhouse management, enhance microenvironment monitoring, and facilitate efficient phenotyping data storage and integration. After leading creation of the foundational infrastructure, this role will shift focus into phenomics and utilization of captured data. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving data-driven decision-making and accelerating the pace of discovery in our pursuit of sustainable agricultural solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive digital strategy for greenhouse operations, encompassing space and resource planning, microenvironment monitoring, and phenotyping data collection.
  • Evaluate and implement state-of-the-art software platforms, sensors, and automation technologies to optimize greenhouse space utilization, resource allocation, and environmental control.
  • Design and implement robust data management systems for seamless integration and analysis of phenotypic data from various sources, including imaging, sensors, and manual observations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including researchers, greenhouse technicians, and IT professionals, to understand their needs and translate them into effective digital solutions.
  • Establish standardized protocols and best practices for data collection, storage, and analysis, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence techniques to derive insights from phenotypic data and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of digital systems, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Provide training and support to end-users, ensuring seamless adoption and effective utilization of digital tools and platforms.

Qualifications

PLEASE NOTE:  candidates must reside in the United States and not require visa sponsorship - now or in the future.  

Required:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and implementing digital solutions for agricultural or research environments, with a strong focus on greenhouse operations, phenotyping, and data management.
  • Proven expertise in programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Java), data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI), and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with greenhouse automation systems, environmental monitoring technologies, and phenotyping techniques.
  • Experience in agile project management methodologies and software development life cycles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of driving innovation and delivering successful digital transformation initiatives.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of plant biology, genetics, and breeding principles.
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques applied to agricultural or biological data.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and data management best practices in the agricultural biotechnology industry.
