Job description

The Government, Industry and Public Affairs Lead will drive engagement with key stakeholders in the Philippines' hybrid rice sector: government agencies, policymakers, and industry stakeholders. This role is crucial in advocating for policies and regulations that support the growth of the hybrid rice industry and positioning Syngenta as a trusted partner in the national rice hybridization program.

  • Government Engagement:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies and policymakers
    • Represent Syngenta in meetings, forums, and consultations with government officials
    • Ensure Syngenta's active participation in regulatory discussions and policy formulation
  • Industry Stakeholder Management:
    • Engage with industry associations, trade associations, key farmer groups, and other relevant stakeholders
    • Organize and participate in industry events, conferences, and workshops
    • Collaborate with internal teams to align business strategies with industry trends
  • Policy Advocacy:
    • Develop and recommend strategies to advocate for hybrid rice-friendly policies
    • Monitor and provide regular updates on policy developments affecting the hybrid rice growth
  • Public-Private Partnerships:
    • Identify and develop opportunities for public-private partnerships
    • Lead initiatives to enhance farmer access to hybrid rice technologies
    • Promote sustainable agricultural practices through collaborative projects
  • Internal Collaboration:
    • Work closely with Sales team, MIPS and Corporate Affairs and Business Sustainability, Regulatory and other relevant functions to align public affairs strategies with business objectives
    • Provide support in the development of business strategies based on policy and industry insights
  • Compliance and Ethics:
    • Ensure all engagements comply with Syngenta's ethics policies and local regulations
    • Maintain transparency in all government and industry interactions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Political Science, Public Admin, Communications, or any related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in government affairs, NGO’s, public affairs or related roles, preferably in the agricultural sector
  • Understanding of the Philippine agricultural landscape and policies
  • Excellent collaborative, networking and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Fluency in English and Filipino; proficiency in other local languages is a plus
