Role purpose

This person will support creation, maintenance, and execution of U.S. federal Government Affairs and Business Sustainability strategy.

They will provide support for management and execution of federal Government Affairs issues through engagement with congressional and executive branch officials.  Provide support for Syngenta Political Action Committee (PAC).

Collaborate with cross-cutting Syngenta teams to advance Syngenta priorities in the crop protection, seeds, and sustainability space and provide support to both Federal Government Relations and Sustainable and Responsible Business teams.

Government Affairs Accountabilities

  • Provide support for Federal Government Relations Manager and assist with advising and informing others in Syngenta on legislative, regulatory, and political issues.
  • Provide legislative and executive branch analysis of issues impacting Syngenta in the US.
  • Research and prepare policy analysis on key policy issues.
  • Represent Syngenta at external meetings with trade associations, industry partners, and coalitions.
  • Draft government affairs communications materials as needed.
  • Attend hearings, markups, briefings, and other meetings as necessary.
  • Provide support for Political Action Committee (PAC) administration.

Sustainability Accountabilities

  • Fully integrate with Sustainable & Responsible Business team and Sustainable Solutions programs.
  • Support development of a sustainability strategy for the U.S. business aligned to key focus areas (Climate, Regenerative Agriculture, Biodiversity, Rural Prosperity, and Water) and global sustainability strategy.
  • Assist SRB team with data collection, Including metrics, KPIs and other sustainability measurement tools. 
  • Support and develop, where appropriate, SRB Team and Syngenta relationships with agricultural value chain companies, their suppliers, growers, and other stakeholders to assist in advancement of on farm sustainable solution initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 5 to 10  years of relevant work experience in the agricultural sector or in the Federal legislative arena.
  • Ability to collaborate with senior leaders and other senior executives
  • Ability to learn and work independently and proactively
  • Strong writing and communications skills
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural industry stewardship and sustainability issues and challenges
  • Capitol Hill or Executive branch experience highly preferred
