In this role, the Formulations & Application Technology Lead serves as a leading territory voice in the regional and global formulation development community, ensuring that Syngenta’s products are true “Made for Canada” solutions.  In this role, you will lead the physiochemical evaluation of prototype crop protection formulations (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides) at the territory level and communicate results to key stakeholders. This critical role is located in Plattsville, ON at our Honeywood Research Facility, a place where innovative scientific work happens while being surrounded by the beauty of agriculture.

Accountabilities:

  • Act strategically to create competitive advantage for Syngenta’s crop protection portfolio, including identifying features and benefits of formulations relative to competitors
  • Develop and deliver crop specific application technology tools (nozzle selection, application parameter optimization, application best practices training) to technology solutions team in support of new product introduction
  • Contribute expert insight into the art and science of formulation chemistry
  • Develop and nurture a local and global network of collaborators within R&D, Regulatory, Supply, and Marketing dedicated to ensuring early stage development projects are aligned to the Canadian marketplace
  • As a member of the new product introduction team, achieve seamless transfer of late stage development products to market.
  • Collaborate with experts in application technology to develop physical, analytical, and mechanical test methods which ensure customer satisfaction with Syngenta products. Contribute technical expertise during the development of safe and effective pesticide application practices
  • Represent Syngenta externally to customers, collaborators, and regulators in the areas of formulation chemistry and application technology
  • Assign ground Transportation of Dangerous Goods(TDG) and air transport International Air Transport Association (IATA) classification for all chemical assets
  • Write parts of Material Safety Data Sheet for products as it relates to formulation characteristics, application, handling, storage and transport classification

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field
  • 1-3 years of post-graduate experience (PhD applicants) or 4-6 years of industry experience (MSc applicants)
  • Demonstrated expertise in formulation chemistry, e.g. pesticide, pharmaceutical, veterinary, personal care, or food science sectors.
  • Understanding of industrial (chemical) development processes, principles of regulation, production & supply is an asset.
  • Strong project management skills, with a special focus on communicating with diverse audiences.
  • Must be comfortable standing or walking, bending, kneeling or working in awkward positions and lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling medium to heavy weight materials
  • Must be comfortable working indoors in inclement test environments, both high & low temperatures
  • Handling and use of chemical test substances with full personal protective equipment including various respirators.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Must have valid driver’s license and passport
