Field Trials Intern

2023 Summer Term

Accountabilities:

• Complete a capstone project to tackle crop challenges and identify solutions with Production leaders in one of the following areas, depending on your expertise:
• Growing, IPM & Soil Systems
• (Example projects) Optimize fertigation, biocontrol cost analysis, soil sterilization efficacy, improve URC profile, increase product shelf life, maximize crop yield, spidermite control strategies
• Mechanics & Digital Tools
• Automating manual processes, tractor upgrades, power & fuel efficiency, spray tracking data integration, GIS-enabled scouting program, reduce equipment downtime
• Harvest & Post-Harvest Operations
• Labor efficiency, worker safety, harvesting process speed, plastics waste reduction, packing process speed, cooler space utilization, training programs development
• Throughout the internship you will also support the Growing, IPM, Operations, and/or Mechanics teams to manage relevant activities based on department needs:
• Propagation, crop maintenance, crop diagnostics, fertigation, pest ID, scheduling spray & harvest, URC inventory, QC, packaging, and transport
• Departmental data entry and inventory for production processes
• Generate ideas and conduct pilot studies to improve processes
• Collect trial data for crop quality enhancement projects
• Document Standard Operating Procedures and develop new protocols
• Apply business strategies in risk mitigation and resource allocation
• Must follow all Company safety procedures and recommendations and promote environmentally sustainable solutions
   

Education & Experience:

• Requires a High School diploma or equivalent
• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Biology, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Crop Protection, Business, Agriculture, Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant subjects with a minimum GPA of 2.75
• Must have a valid Driver's License
• All applicants must be eligible to work in the US

Preferred Requirements:

• Communication-The ability to communicate information well (both written and spoken) is highly desired
• Detail Oriented-All procedures and policies must be understood and followed
• Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking
• An independent individual who is self-motivating and needs little supervision
• Previous internship and/or co-op experience related to Agriculture is preferred but not required
• Ability to work outdoors in a hot and humid environment.
• Confidence- Not afraid to ask bold questions and be curious
• Eagerness to learn and grow in the role

The Syngenta Flowers team is currently seeking a Field Trials Intern to join our Research & Process Improvement team in Alva, FL. Our team implements efficiency and quality improvements within our local farm to deliver business objectives.
