Purpose

The purpose of this testing management role is to lead and oversee testing activities across our landscape of ERP platforms and applications, and their connected systems. Syngenta is at the beginning of a multi-year program to upgrade or replace all of the SAP platforms that comprise our ERP landscape, involving also a series of SAP ECC migrations into S4. The key accountability of this role is to ensure that we have the testing capabilities and disciplines in place such that all of these migrations, and also future developments and changes in our ERP systems, are executed with maximum reliability and that system stability is assured. Important aspects of the role will be to establish robust test methods and processes, to drive acceptance of these methods across the different teams involved in ERP change, and to achieve testing efficiency through use of our modernised and integrated suite of testing tools. This role will report into Enterprise Applications Support, and additionally be a key member of our ERP upgrade program.

Accountabilities

ERP Testing Management:

  • Lead testing activities in the SAP ERP environment
  • Ensure production system reliability through rigorous testing processes
  • Develop and implement testing strategies aligned with business objectives

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Work closely with DevOps leads, project managers, and business project leads, to promote the adoption of robust methods and ensure compliance with test acceptance criteria.

Advanced Testing Tools:

  • Develop and support the use of advanced testing tools in the SAP ecosystem
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new testing technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Train team members on the use of advanced testing tools

EODB Program Support:

  • Play a key role in the Syngenta ERP upgrade program.
  • Manage testing processes to ensure future migrations into the Syngenta Core are as secure as possible
  • Develop and implement reliability-focused testing strategies for data migrations

Quality Assurance and Best Practices:

  • Establish and maintain quality standards for SAP testing across the organization
  • Implement best practices in test planning, execution, and reporting
  • Drive continuous improvement in testing processes

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and coach DevOps squads, comprising internal employees and external partner, in test methods and Syngenta requirements.
  • Foster a culture of quality and continuous learning within the testing function.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate testing-related risks in SAP implementations and upgrades
  • Provide expert advice on go/no-go decisions based on test results

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Deliver regular status updates and comprehensive reports to senior management and stakeholders
  • Ensure proper documentation of testing processes, results, and lessons learned

 • Not quantifiable in terms of revenue or cost, but high in terms of securing reliable delivery of change in business critical systems.

People:

  • No direct reports planned, but leadership and influencing are paramount.

 • Global

Complexity:

  • Main engagements initially will be within the program to move our Crop Protection business onto S4 HANA, but then this will increase in scope to include testing for steady state operations, other projects, and major migrations on to the central S4 platform.
  • The scope of engagement will include Enterprise Applications globally, other internal IT functions, business process centres of excellence, business stakeholders with roles in initiating projects, and major IT partners.

Experience required for the job

  • Experience with test planning, design, and execution
  • Experience in managing testing in large SAP implementations and migrations
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining quality standards via robust testing methods.
  • Experience in creating comprehensive test reports for IT and business stakeholders
  • Experience in root cause analysis and defect management

Minimum education and critical knowledge required for the job

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in SAP testing, with at least 4 years in a leadership role
  • In-depth knowledge of SAP modules and ERP systems
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices
  • Experience with advanced testing tools and methodologies
  • Excellent project management and communication skills

Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency in various testing types (unit, integration, system, UAT)
  • Knowledge of test management tools
  • Ability to analyze test results and provide actionable insights
  • Ability to adapt testing strategies to changing project requirements
  • Understanding of business processes, integration between cross functions.
  • Knowledge of best practices in SAP testing
  • Ability to align and coordinate activities across multiple functions.
  • Strong communication skills in different organization levels.
  • Good stakeholder management and ability to communicate with various levels in the organization is a must.
  • Knowledge of data migration and security best practices
  • Experience with large-scale ERP implementations and upgrades
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Understanding of SAP S/4HANA and SAP Fiori
  • Experience with test automation in SAP environments
