We are looking for an Engineering Manager (m/f/n) based in our site in Muttenz (BL). The plant is located in the GETEC Park Swiss in Muttenz, and its close proximity to our Technical Development Centre in Münchwilen will facilitate the production step from pilot plant to large-scale production.

As Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of project managers, project engineers, and other resources to manage the engineering capital program for the northern Switzerland sites. Your primary focus will be to ensure the timely and cost-effective implementation of new or improved assets while fostering a culture of engineering professionalism and sustainability. You will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that capital projects adhere to engineering best practices and meet Syngenta's health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements. Project locations will include Muttenz and other locations across the Rhein valley as required. You will also give occasional regional support in Europe, depending on the workload.

  • Manage a team of project managers and project engineers (external and internal), balancing workload and optimizing resource utilization within the Europe Engineering and Site Engineering Teams.
  • Develop and foster a sustainable capital project capability and governance through the encouragement of engineering professionalism and the training of project managers and project engineers.
  • Manage engineering project contracts and project platforms in partnership with Procurement to efficiently manage outsourced engineering work across the northern Switzerland sites.
  • Influence and direct the scale, nature, timing, and execution of capital investments to meet evolving business requirements.
  • Implement and improve processes for defining, estimating, executing, tracking, and reporting the costs and progress of individual capital projects.
  • Deliver timely engineering capital approvals and project closure reports, ensuring compliance with project objectives, cost, and safety parameters.
  • Set success criteria for projects and formulate project execution strategies to ensure alignment with regional objectives and standards. Ensure alignment with the Syngenta Engineering Project Process and guidance.
  • Share expertise in engineering knowledge across the Europe region based on reliable, innovative technical solutions and project methodology. Ensure link between the sites and the Global Engineering Excellence Team.
  • Demonstrate HSE leadership through rigorous application of procedures and consistent action where engineering work is performed.
  • Act as Project Manager for major projects, depending on workload and resources availability.

Qualifications

  • Min.15+ years of project management experience, preferably in multinational companies within the agrochemical, pharma, chemical, or process industry.
  • Proven track record in managing major engineering projects, including project life cycle management and leadership of internal and external resources.
  • Technical degree or equivalent - Preferred Engineering-based (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.) or Science-based (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, etc.)
  • Qualification/certification or equivalent education in project management (e.g. PMI, Prince2, APM, etc.)
  • Fluent in English and German (additional European language appreciated)
  • Expertise in project definition, cost control, contract negotiation, and management, with strong leadership, networking, and communication skills.
  • Fluent with digital tools for office and project management, adaptability to changing demands, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
