In this role you will work within a multidisciplinary global team to discover, define, and design experiences that empower farmers to work more effectively and efficiently by utilizing our data-driven solutions.  

As a member of Syngenta’s IT R&D team you will define the data and technology strategy and orchestrate the digital experience for our lab scientists to meet the ever-changing needs of lab workers. You strengthen our innovation capabilities and enable CP Research teams to perform their work effectively and efficiently by driving automation and employment of digital technology. You will own the Analytical Data Platform and collaborate with multiple other platform teams in different countries with different cultures and in different time-zones. These platform teams focus on technologies that drive our lab work. They constantly seek to optimize the digital lab experience to make work enjoyable for our people and to execute our Digital Science agenda. You will drive the digitalization of Analytical Sciences, constantly creating value in the short term, while keeping the longer-term ambition in mind. You will proactively engage across R&D and form the community around digital analytical chemistry and biology. 

We all have a critical role to play and add value. Here is how this role will help: 

  • Work closely with CP R&D IT and R&D leadership members, continuous improvement leads, and analytical chemistry experts to define the Digital Analytical Science strategy and implementation, underpinning our Digital Science agenda. 
  • Inject your research experience with digital to constructively disrupt the status quo of “how things are being done here”. Inspire CP Research lab teams to exploit the full potential in our data assets and emerging digital technologies. 
  • Pro-actively communicate and engage with the CP Research community as a visible ambassador of IT and digital. Build a community around Digital Analytical Science. Drive a positive and close working relationship with Syngenta’s IT teams, key collaborators, and outsourcing partners. Some of the technologies that we leverage are AWS / Azure management, DevOps, Testing, Coding Standards. 

Qualifications

Our industry and our function are changing rapidly so we are looking for new team members with a strong desire to develop themselves. You will be a great fit if you have: 

  • Post-graduate degrees in a natural science, ideally with specialization in analytical science 
  • Mindset of agile change delivery, service management, and steady state operations (e.g. DevOps, SaFE) 
  • Fluency in English, additional languages beneficial  
  • Analytical chemistry or biology experience combined with a passion for using innovative information technology to scale the impact of lab work 
  • Experience with algorithms to process analytical data (e.g., LCMS or NMR) 
  • Appreciation of the value in data - experience in capturing data at source 
  • Track record of Lab IT technologies applied in research labs 
  • Initial track record in leading teams directly or indirectly in a matrix environment 
  • Demonstrated ability to bridge information technology with business strategies. 
  • Based at a site that has a significant CPR labs footprint (Jealott’s Hill, UK; Stein, Switzerland) 
  • May need to able to travel from time to time between CPR sites globally
