To support that challenge, the Vegetables and Flowers team is currently seeking a Data Visualization Intern in Durham, NC or Greensboro, NC. As a Data Visualization Intern you will assist the Applied Genetics Pipeline Strategy, Operations and Intelligence team in vegetables and flowers in performing data analysis and visualization/reporting using the ever-evolving genotype data.

Estimated Duration: May 2023 – August 2023 

You will: 

  • Collaborate with Applied Genetic Scientists in Veg & Flowers; genotyping lab; Project, Porfilio, & Planning; and R&D IT team members to access the data pertaining to  
    • Planning data (demand) in planning tools 
    • Submission data (logistic data) to lab 
    • Actual data received from lab 
  • Manage and monitor daily activities of data received from lab 
  • Create robust direct link to source data with zero manual intervention 
  • Prepare Tableau reports on the current genomic resources  
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding the status of Applied Genetics related data for all vegetable crops 
  • Dashboards: One stop solution for each of the vegetable crops (both high and detailed level) 
    • Generic view across vegetables 
    • Current genomic resources  
    • Trait Introgression Tracking 

Qualifications

What you must have: 

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Data Science or a closely related field of study 
  • Knowledge of data retrieval (strong SQL skills), data management across multiple locations 
  • Detail oriented and have accurate record keeping skills 
  • Experience in Tableau or related dash-board tools 
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously without direct supervision 
  • Strong statistical program skills (R, JMP, etc.) 

What you might also contribute to the team: 

  • Proactive, constructive written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams 
  • Experience working in a greenhouse or biological laboratory 
  • Research experience working with large data 
  • Strong computer skills (e.g Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Smartsheet) 
  • Ability to be discreet with confidential information 
  • Ability to work on 2 or more projects at the same time
