The main responsibilities:

  • Definition and Delivery of new Product Safety Electronic Data Capture Systems
    • Co-ordinating delivery of a portfolio of new electronic data capture and storage systems for scientific data (e.g., toxicology, environmental fate, ecotoxicology, metabolism, exposure).
    • Partner with the PS technical experts and IT Business Analyst (BA) to translate the current and anticipated future business needs into clearly defined and prioritized data system requirements.
    • Supporting the design of data systems for data capture and storage ensuring compatibility with the PS data model and alignment with PS data management policies (including prototype development)
    • During development of the solution via appropriate external providers, act as the representative for PS in ensuring it meets the business requirements
    • Manage roll out of new systems by co-ordinating preparation of training material, training with internal stakeholders and collaborating with PS operations teams to train contract research organisations (CROs).
    • Collaborates with other data managers (and the data management and governance lead) to ensure alignment with the wider data landscape within PS. 
  • Management of Product Safety Electronic Data
    • Key representative for PS data sources within the wider CPR & D data landscape, acting as the point of contact for end users.
    • Collaborates with PS operations to monitor population of data sources by CROs and internal data generators ensuring accuracy and completeness.
    • Product Owner for data capture systems, partnering with business stakeholders (PS digital lead, technical experts) to identify   enhancements required, reacting to changing business needs and ensuring the systems remain fit for purpose.
    • Manages backlog of enhancements/fixes to the system, making decisions and prioritising according to end user requirements and business needs.
    • Works with the data governance and management lead to develop and ensure compliance with PS data management  policies and centralised data standards.
    • Analysis of the data (via an automated tool) to feed back into the business to support assessment and improvement of data quality
    • Advises PS technical experts, data analysts and data scientists accessing and using data sources on best practice and data quality issues.
    • Works with the PS and regulatory data domain lead to ensure seamless connection to other CPR & D data sources to support development of data products (dashboards, workflows etc)

Qualifications

Experience required:

  • Scientist with proven experience in working with datasets and databases or a data professional with 1-2 years’ experience in life sciences
  • Some hands-on experience with automated data delivery or electronic data capture systems (e.g., LIMS)
  • Demonstrable analytical thinking and data-driven approaches
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills within scientific and technical teams
  • Experience in a Product Safety technical area and/or experience related to Product Safety processes, ways of working or analytics would be an advantage
  • Good understanding of good agricultural practices and use of crop protection products is helpful

Knowledge and education required:

  • BA/BSc or higher in Scientific or IT discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Good general understanding of data principles and best practice in the context of data for R&D organisations   (including FAIR and data lifecycles – data extraction, capture, storage, management, curation, harmonisation, integration and exploitation)
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills with the ability to work in a collaborative manner
  • Self-motivator with good organisational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of data management and analysis tools such as SQL , Excel , Tableau, Qilk , Spotfire and basic scripting e.g., python.   
  • Knowledge of workflow tools (e.g., KNIME) is a plus.
  • Highly competent in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Good to know:

  • Part of our Product Safety Strategic Development team you will report to the Head of Digital Strategy & Transformation.
  • Based at our International Research & Development site, Jealott’s Hill site, in Bracknell.
  • Hybrid working is possible with 3 days a week in Jealott’s Hill.
  • No direct reports.

The Opportunity: As a Data Manager in Product Safety (PS), your primary responsibility will be to ensure the accuracy, completeness, quality and FAIRness and thus the usefulness and value of scientific data related to PS. You will initially drive the agile delivery of PS electronic data capture initiatives by working with the PS digital and Information Technology (IT) teams, subject matter experts and end-users.
