As part of our activities in Germany, Syngenta Crop Protection AG Weil am Rhein is looking for a Customs Expert (m/f/d) EU.


Role purpose: 
This role has the mission to drive operational performance of import, export and transit activities in the defined country area in collaboration with our customs brokers. This role will report directly to the EAME Customs Operations Manager. Location is Weil am Rhein, hybrid models are possible.

Responsibilities/main tasks:

  • Ensure the smooth daily management of customs operations for EU countries by closely monitoring the performance   of import/export operations. Where appropriate, the responsibility will be extended by further countries respectively
  • Act as service delivery manager with our lead broker (KGH) and its partner brokers in your area and ensure agreed   service levels are successfully met
  • Identify options to improve the quality of customs operations processes in spirit of compliance and efficiency
  • Identify optimization potential regarding operating costs within your region and opportunities for reducing duty spend   with the use of any customs regime that is applicable
  • Ensure end-to-end compliance with country rules and regulations
  • Manage all escalated customs execution issues for your area related to the daily operations between KGH, its partner network, Syngenta sites, tollers, 3rd party warehouses and commercial units
  • Continuously monitor relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with partners in order to create visibility and to track their performance 
  • Ensure that any agreed and documented corrective and preventive long-term actions for any issues or non-conformances are upheld and completed
  • Ensure continuous improvement of all processes associated with import /export and maintain full ownership and control of all related and documented SOPs and working instructions
  • Streamline customs operations processes where possible in line with logistics, order management and planning requirements

Qualifications

Knowledge and experience expected:

  • Education at customs authorities, as customs broker or comparable degree with focus on customs and foreign trade
  • Fluent in English, both orally and in writing, German would be appreciated, any additional language is a plus
  • Ease in dealing with IT to extract and maintain data from systems (SAP, customs software, Microsoft Outlook, etc.)
  • At least three years working experience with focus on customs and foreign trade
  • At least three years of experience of working in an international organization where multinational and cross-cultural   interaction is the norm
  • Advanced knowledge of distribution operations, particularly related to import / export, customs duties and VAT management within an international company
  • High level of understanding of logistics, customs mgmt. and international transportation
  • Understanding of trade and customs regulations in the chemical industry
  • Awareness of tax and transfer pricing concepts is a plus
  • Some travel requirements may exist at national and / or EAME level
