We have an exciting key role opportunity for a Construction Engineer to work in our Grangemouth Manufacturing Centre. You will effectively plan, manage, co-ordinate and deliver a selective number of site projects involving Construction activities, maintenance support and facilities Management, delivering HSE, cost and quality KPI’s.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver full compliance of, nominated contractor activities and Non-Manufacturing Area assets in accordance with site company and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the site Construction Manager in estimating, expediting, planning and cost control – to effectively deliver construction.
  • Contribute in all safety challenges and be proactive in all aspects of the Syngenta Safety Culture. Ensure HSE is considered within the construction process and regulatory and permitry requirements are detailed.
  • Interrogate work relevant requests and site instructions, then facilitate and collaborate with the relevant parties, outage, maintenance, construction planning and plant teams to fully scope work tasks
  • Ensure the scope is adequately budgeted including taking site visits as required, co-ordinating with the scope originators and at times developing the scope where only partial information is received.
  • Identify which tasks are non-outage and maximise these where possible
  • Attend construction-based meetings ensure they are arranged, attended, communicated and actions completed.
  • Work with the QA department to ensure handovers are completed on time.
  • Support the Construction Manager, act as deputy when required.
  • Co-ordinate with external companies when required, the role involves a considerable amount of contractor involvement
  • Contribute significantly to the delivery of construction and project work during periods of high activity in particular outage work

 

Requisite Experience, Skills and Behaviours:

  • A good technical knowledge of varying disciplines of engineering, in particular control and electrical engineering
  • Solid experience in the construction industry
  • Ability to understand and extract information, hours and trade information from engineering estimates prepared by others
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and achieve deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to build relationships (internally & externally) and work collaboratively in a team
  • Able to effectively manage their own workload including forward planning and addressing issues before they become critical
  • A good health and safety ethic and general knowledge of safety within the construction industry
  • Ability to recognize development shortfalls, actively seek out training, learning and growth to further better the role
  • IT Skills, in particular be strong in MS Excel and word; experience with SAP and/or primavera software is an advantage
  • Knowledge of relevant UK legislation
  • Costing and Budget experience
  • Experience of Contractor control and task management
  • HND or Mechanical/Electrical Degree, a good knowledge of control and electrical estimating would be an advantage
