Job description

We are currently looking for an Environmental Liabilities and Remediation Manager to provide technical guidance on environmental issues to support Syngenta activities. In this role, you will manage environmental remediation projects in the US/North America and provide technical expertise on other environmental liability management activities, including minimizing environmental risks and liabilities in business transactions such as divestments, decommissioning, acquisitions and construction projects. 

Duties:

  • Ensure environmental management activities are carried out in line with business objectives to comply with regulatory and Syngenta requirements, minimize liabilities and ensure company reputation is maintained.
  • Manage environmental remediation projects in US and other NA locations in collaboration with the internal and external resources and maintain comprehensive technical oversight to deliver agreed objectives.
  • Manage project budgets, annual spend and overall environmental provisions in North America.
  • Ensure compliance of provisions program with IAS37 and manage associated external audits.
  • Manage remediation governance processes in NA and provide updates on the status of remediation projects and provisions to Syngenta management, legal, finance, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Develop strategies for site management, cost control and liability reduction, working with internal and external counsel and key stakeholders.
  • Negotiate with regulatory agencies and other parties to implement overall site strategies and tactics.
  • Be an active member of the Syngenta Global Environmental Centre of Expertise to drive continuous improvement in environmental management standards and ways of working.
  • Provide technical expertise on other environmental management activities, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, hydrogeology or related science.
  • 15 years environmental management and / or environmental remediation experience in environmental consulting, chemical manufacturing, or similar.
  • Extensive management of environmental liabilities and remediation projects.
  • Independent work without close supervision and with limited guidance.
  • Provision of technical expertise within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing financial aspects of large environmental projects and provisions programs.
  • Influencing key stakeholders, regulatory authorities and other third-parties to achieve appropriate and proportionate management of environmental risks and liabilities.
  • Technical expertise in soil and groundwater investigation, remediation and other key environment management subjects.
  • Detailed knowledge of US environmental regulations.
  • Able to quickly assimilate and apply new technical and regulatory knowledge.
