As part of our activities in EAME, we are looking for:

Breeding Trials Specialist - Vegetables (M/W)

Role purpose:

Reporting to the Market Segment Lead, you manage the trial activities for global vegetables program, in collaboration with the Breeding Project Managers, to achieve excellence in on-site and off-site trials.

The position is offered on a permanent contract, based in France/Saint Barthelemy d ’Anjou (49).

Regular business travel required, in the Northwest (Pays de La Loire, Brittany…).

Starting date: January/February 2023.

Accountabilities:

Successful completion of this role will result in high quality trials, implementation of test design, proper collection and analysis of data that will enable data driven decisions for product advancement, in collaboration with Breeding, Product Development Specialist, Marketing and Technical Support.

As such, you manage on-site and off-site testing and provide quality data to support decision making.

You stablish the annual plan for evaluation trials, including the budget (trial plan).

You organise external (with growers) or on-station trials (with station managers), as foreseen in the trial planning tool and according to the working method described in the trial protocol.

You prepare and negotiate contracts with partner farmers for the trials based on the standard Syngenta agreement.

You select growers' fields and greenhouses for trials according to the target customer segment and general trial requirements (uniformity, soil, consistency).

You ensure plot visits at critical stages of cultivation to perform or manage sowing, planting, harvesting to avoid mix-ups and provide correct labelling of material. And coordinate seasonal workers/third party companies, in charge of the trials, to ensure the quality of the trials and the data.

You participate in crop and yield evaluations by collecting and analysing data according to the trial protocol to provide an overview of the hybrids, for their positioning, in certain markets (national level) relative to Syngenta and the competition.

You deliver all collected data and update the different information systems in the company's formats and information systems and within the agreed deadlines.

You ensure the availability of Syngenta products and commercial seed controls following internal compliance rules.

You organize the events of: Product advancement tour (presentation of trials and new candidates for transfer), writing of visit minutes, and preparation of technical brochures for variety promotion.

You will maintain good contacts with distributors/producers/dealers to understand the needs and practices of customers and use this information to update breeders to improve trials.


Qualifications

Master's/Engineer’s degree in Agronomy, with 3 to 5 years’ experience minimum, in a seeds company in a similar role.

You have good knowledge of agronomic basics and cultivation practices.

You are a real facilitator, you are a good communicant, organised and rigorous.

You will be able to manage the working conditions in the field.

You are comfortable using office tools such as Pack Office (Excel), and other software/data bases.

Experience in coordinating seasonal/temporary workers teams is appreciated.

Professional English required to work in our multicultural organisation (meetings, emails, documents).

Professional French required to manage partners, growers, and seasonal workers.

Driving a sowing machine experience will be appreciated.

Site not accessible by transport - travel to the fields to be expected.
