Are you ready to make a significant impact in the agricultural industry? Look no further! The Vegetable Seed Enhancement Team (VSET) at Syngenta is seeking a highly motivated and talented Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. As a Data Scientist at VSET, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, working closely with stakeholders across the vegetable business. Your primary focus will be on designing and implementing imaging technologies, algorithms, and artificial intelligence systems. By automating measurements and leveraging AI, you will gain a deep understanding of seed physiology and develop data-based solutions for the challenges faced by the global vegetable business.

The Challenge

When you are established in your role, you will work with the VSET team to;

  • Automate seed and plant measurements, developing algorithms for predicting seed performance.
  • Combine expertise in image analysis, machine learning, seed physiology, and biological experimentation.
  • Lead implementation and technology transfer to processing sites.
  • Actively participate in Syngenta's network of imaging and AI technologies.

Qualifications

Your Profile

  • To succeed in this role, you preferably have a Ph.D. or MSc degree with 3+ years of experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence or equivalent qualifications.
  • You are familiar with machine/deep learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.
  • Experience in deploying image analysis pipelines on the edge or in the cloud would be advantageous.
  • It would be a big plus if you have a strong interest in developing skills in chemometrics, spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, and establish a strong basic understanding of seed and plant biology.
  • You have good communication skills to interact with diverse internal stakeholders.
  • You are willing to work in Enkhuizen on a fulltime basis.
