We are currently seeking a Bioinformatics Molecular Data Scientist for the Plant Analysis and Trialing Group. The full-time position is in the Beijing Innovation Center, Beijing, China. Syngenta Biotechnology China (SBC), is one of company’s global Research and Development sites, mainly focusing on biotech research and product development for major crops. Located in Zhongguancun Life Science Park in Beijing, SBC officially started operations in 2008, and is now the home base for 200 highly qualified professionals. Working with top level scientists globally, we collaborate to deliver innovative solutions to farmers across the world. As a Molecular Data Scientist, you will be a key member in supporting the delivery of biotech projects and platform operation in SBC.

You will help meet the world’s most pressing needs by:

  • Being a responsible scientist with strong skills in large scale data analysis (copy number, gene transcription, gene translation), genome analysis, and epigenetic analysis. 

Accountabilities

  • Collaboratively work in cross-functional teams to ensure on time delivery of diverse plant biotech projects
  • Deliver gene analysis and DNA sequence analysis in biotech projects with high quality and efficiency
  • Follow protocols and independently conduct experiments and trouble shooting in molecular biology
  • Contribute to function operation and capability improvement, such as testing new methods and developing protocols
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and perform all activities in compliance with Syngenta quality management and HSE guidelines
     

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry, or relevant fields; Master’s with strong computations skills 
  • 2+ years’ experience in agricultural industry
  • Proven record of success in the form of patents and publications
  • Direct work experience in assay development, gene expression analysis, and editing analysis
  • Basic bioinformatics programming (R, Python) and NGS/TGS analysis skills 
  • Bilingual: Mandarin and English, proficient in oral and written English communication

Preferred Requirements

  • Direct work experience in modern sequencing technology and other high-throughput molecular analysis platforms 
  • Understanding of Genetic Modification and genome editing product development and regulatory requirements 
  • Capable of delivering under pressure and highly organized in multi-tasking environment
  • Detail-oriented and strong trouble shooting skills
  • Strong team player, willing to support others, and flexible in handling changes
