Applied Genetics Scientist - Genomic Prediction

Into Action

The Applied Genetics Scientist - Genomic Prediction will play a pivotal role in implementing genomic prediction methodologies across breeding pipelines to expedite genetic advancements in vegetable breeding worldwide. The primary objectives include optimizing predictive capabilities for trait selection to meet Target Product Profiles (TPPs) and monitoring germplasm structure and diversity to enhance the germplasm development process.

The Challenge
As the leader of genomic selection initiatives, your role entails close collaboration with Germplasm Development teams. You will be responsible for planning, designing, coordinating, analyzing, and executing these initiatives within specified timelines and budget constraints. Your influence will extend to the adoption of genomic prediction methods and their seamless integration into breeding processes. Moreover, you will continuously enhance training sets to improve prediction accuracy for target traits, ensuring alignment with product profiles and market segment needs. Collaborating with Analytics and Data Science teams, you will contribute to the development of innovative tools, modeling approaches, and methodologies. Your expertise will also be pivotal in developing germplasm strategies through comprehensive studies on characterization, structure, and diversity. To maintain effectiveness, you will keep a profound understanding of crops and market segments, facilitating the successful application of technology. Staying updated with scientific advancements in germplasm, genomics, and data science methodologies will be integral to your role, ensuring informed decision-making and progress in your initiatives.


Qualifications

Your Profile

The ideal candidate for this role will possess a PhD in Quantitative Genetics, Statistical Genetics, or a related field. They should have expertise in genomic prediction methodology, plant breeding, quantitative genetics, statistics, experimental design, and relevant genotyping technologies. Furthermore, proficiency in open-source programming languages and advanced data analysis is essential. Candidates must demonstrate skills in analyzing large, diverse, and complex datasets, coupled with theoretical knowledge and practical experience with regression methods and machine learning techniques. Moreover, candidates should exhibit proficiency in data wrangling, algorithm selection, accessing APIs, and utilizing advanced data and analytical capabilities. Strong communication skills are necessary to convey complex concepts effectively to non-expert audiences. Creative problem-solving skills and a drive for innovation are highly valued attributes. Candidates should also possess strong initiative, results orientation, and the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-disciplinary teams.
