Role Purpose

To provide expert technical direction and problem solving for team members generating analytical data and/or methodology in support of product development, registration, or production efforts, in compliance with all relevant technical, financial, GLP and HSE (health, safety, and environment) requirements. This may include responsibility for method development and validation, GLP test and reference material characterization, conduct of GLP product chemistry studies, manufacturing, and Pilot Plant support.

To lead a team of analysts in a productive and efficient manner, including, but not limited to project prioritization, resource allocation, people development and performance management.

Accountabilities

  • Lead a team of analysts in a productive and efficient manner, including, but not limited to project prioritization, resource allocation, people development and performance management
  • Supervise a team of scientists in developing and validating analytical methods to quantify the amount of analytes of interest
  • Provide expert leadership in chromatography, spectroscopy and problem solving while working with team members generating analytical data and/or methodology in support of product development, registration, or production efforts, in compliance with GLP and HSE (health, safety, and environment) requirements
  • Mentor and coach other scientists within the Analytical Team and across the product development department.
  • Collaborate closely with cross functional teams and stakeholders- Formulation Development, Formulation Engineers, Product Chemistry, Regulatory, Supply chain, Manufacturing, Process Chemistry and Product Safety to amicably arrive at a business objective.
  • Ensure laboratory safety and GLP compliance in Analytical function
  • Drive innovation and implementation of new technology and creative ideas to improve performance and stay competitive
  • Implement continuous improvement ideas on processes and technology to improve lab efficiency and productivity.
  • Participate and communicate timely and effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders on interdisciplinary project teams.
  • Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture •
  • Assist the Group Leader / Manager in the development of efficient processes and effective strategies and may act as a deputy for their superior.
  • Strive for personal and professional development for themselves and their team members by maintaining active awareness of technical advances inside and outside Syngenta.

Qualifications

  • Minimum M.S. or PhD degree in Chemistry, Biosciences, Chemical Engineering, or related field with ~5+ yrs. of relevant industry experience.
  • Practical knowledge in analytical development, Product, and material characterization. Preferred experience in GLP, GMP, ISO/IEC 17025 certified labs
  • A thorough knowledge of in chromatography e.g., LC, GC, UPLC, UPCC and spectroscopy, UV/Vs/NIR/MS. Experience with use of Chromeleon software is a plus
  • Prior experience in people leadership and supervising
  • Excellent organization and communication skills; can engage well with cross functional teams, pay attention to detail, solve problems, and make decisions
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change and adjust to business needs
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is not required but considered desirable:
  • -working with or within regulatory, toxicological, manufacturing, or supply-chain areas.
  • Exhibits an enthusiasm for working closely with commercial, marketing, and production teams and engaging with multi-functional teams to deliver quality products to the customer.
  • Possesses an aptitude for mentoring and willingness to coach others.
  • Show proficiency in experimental design and/or method development.
  • Takes initiative, is known as a self-starter, and exhibits a passion for problem-solving.
  • Shows adaptability and is an agent for change.
  • Exhibits timely and effective judgement as a subject matter expert.
  • Seeks opportunities to collaborate within and outside of candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
