In our continuing mission to enable digital science across Crop Protection Research and Development (CP R&D) we are looking for a Solution Architect to support the numerous teams delivering significant, high value projects supporting digital transformation in Product Safety. This enables safe, sustainable and profitable decision making throughout the lifecycle of active ingredients, products, biologicals and services through comprehensive scientific expertise, data-driven insights and innovation. You will work with fellow tech leads to lead the architectural strategy and design for Product Safety IT systems, driving the evolution of our landscape to support scientific operations through robust data flows, strategic planning and enterprise-level solution design. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining the solution architecture landscape for Product Safety across multiple projects and vendor development teams, ensuring compliance with Syngenta and industry standards, data design and regulations.
  • Leading solution architecture and data design decisions across multiple projects and initiatives, while determining the technology system architecture and functional design needed to support and meet the domain’s business goals.
  • Ownership and maintenance of comprehensive solution architecture documentation.
  • Collaborating with IT stakeholders, Tech Leads, Data ops, data governance leads, Product Safety scientists and the Architecture guild to align to existing standards for design, implementation and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensuring our data and systems support FAIR principles.
  • Creating and communicating long-term technology vision, aligned to business objectives.
  • Driving adoption of modern software engineering practices through selecting and collaborating with third-party suppliers.

Qualifications

What we are looking for?

  • University bachelor's degree in software engineering, information technology or comparable.
  • Proven track record acting as a hands-on Solution Architect / enterprise architect with a strong foundation in Software Engineering.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams, working with SMEs, BAs, Tech leads and Data Engineers to translate business needs into technical designs.
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering of distributed systems and working with legacy systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of architecture principles and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud technologies (AWS essential, other clouds desirable).
  • Knowledge of data architecture and governance principles.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and strategic thinking across diverse domains while aligning technology with business objectives.
  • Ability to drive decision making processes in a complex scientific environment.
  • Strong adaptability, problem-solving and analytical skills with eagerness to learn new technologies.
  • Experience working within a life science environment / with AI/ML integration in enterprise systems and owning certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, iSAQB or TOGAF Foundation) is preferred.

Jealott's Hill International Research Centre UK is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Jealott’s Hill is one of the main global research and development sites and key activities include research into discovery of new active ingredients, new formulation technologies, product safety and technical support of our product range.

Additional locations within the UK can be also considered.
